Mrs. Della Maye Stanley Key, 91, of Ararat, passed away Thursday morning, August 10, 2017, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson. Mrs. Key was born May 25, 1926, in Yadkin County, one of ten children born to the late Marvin L. and Mirtie Dobbins Stanley. Della worked as a seamstress for many years at Harrison’s Store in Mount Airy and was a faithful member of Blackwater United Methodist Church. She is survived by her husband of almost 70 years, Oliver Gabriel Key, Jr. of the home; a son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Liz Key of Dobson; a grandson, Jayme L. Key of Ararat; a stepgrandson and his wife, Jeremy and Julie Wilder of Ararat; a sister, Lorene “Jo” Stanley Danley of Ararat; a brother and sister-in-law, Charles and Shirley Stanley of Dobson; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Key was preceded in death by a grandson, Gabriel W. Key; a sister, Levanch “Shorty” Stanley Sparks; and six brothers, Leo Stanley, Roy Stanley, Oscar Stanley, Artis Stanley, Frank Stanley, and Bob Stanley. The funeral service will be held Sunday, August 13, 2017, at 2:00 PM at Blackwater United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Roxanne Cuff Marterre, the Rev. Jack Danley, and Tony Marion officiating. Burial will follow at Skyline Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends Sunday from 1:00 until 2:00 PM at the church. Flowers will be accepted, or memorial contributions may be made to the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home, 945 Zephyr Road, Dobson, NC 27017; or a charity of the donor’s choice.
