Obituary
Mrs. Shasta Bode-Brown, age 52, of Mount Airy, passed away peacefully on Friday April 6, 2018, at Forsyth Medical Center. Shasta was born in Detroit, Michigan on July 3, 1965, the daughter of John F. Bode, Jr. and the late Bonnie Inman Bode. Shasta graduated from North Surry High School and then went on to the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, obtaining her degree in Public Health Education. Shasta began her career at Step One Counseling Services and then moved to Crossroads Counseling Center. In 2000, Shasta heard God’s call and took the position of Director of Christian Education at First Presbyterian Church. She devoted her life to the work of God and furthering his love here on earth. She went on to receive her master’s degree in Christian Education from Union Presbyterian Theological Seminary in Richmond, VA. Shasta survives in her father, John F. Bode, her husband, Mark Brown, and her children, Kate and Sam. But that isn’t all. Shasta survives in her congregational family at First Presbyterian Church and the many ways they have served God together. She survives in all of her Faith Friends and her Beacons, who will go on, carrying the things Shasta taught them, and be the change they wish to see in the world. She survives in her best friends, The Yellow Socks Brigade, and their endless nights of laughter and dominoes together. Shasta survives in everybody and every life she ever touched but perhaps most importantly, Shasta survives in her legacy of love, faith, laughter, and hope; the things that even cancer can’t end. A memorial service will be held Sunday April 15, 2018, at 4:00 PM, at First Presbyterian Church with a visitation to follow in the Fellowship Hall. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church-Beacons, PO Box 1286, Mount Airy, NC 27030, or to Blue Ridge CareNet Counseling, 131 West Lebanon St., Mount Airy, NC 27030.

Mark, Kate, Sam, and father, you are all in my thoughts and prayers. Shasta touched many lives. I shall always remember her sacrificing her time during the Christmas Tree Lighting events at City Hall. No matter if the rain or temperatures fell, she was there with a big smile providing hot chocolate for everyone.
