1st Sgt. James Davillo Perkins, 79, of Pilot Mountain, passed away Saturday, April 30, 2011, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson. He was born November 6, 1931, in Cape Giradeau, MO, to the late James and Opal May Rogers Perkins. He retired from the United States Army and served in the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War. He was also the recipient of a bronze star and Purple Heart. 1st Sgt. Perkins is survived by his beloved, Mary Elizabeth Greene of Winston-Salem; a daughter, Sherry Lynn Perkins of Mount Airy; two sons and daughters-in-law, Michael Ray and Patsy Perkins of Pilot Mountain and David and Leily Perkins of Reno, NV; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. A graveside service will be held Wednesday, May 4, 2011, at 2:00 PM at Salisbury National Cemetery in Salisbury. Full military rites will be conducted by the Army Memorial Honor Guard. Moody Funeral services will be assisting the Perkins family.
