​Alma Marie Matthews

Alma Marie Matthews, of Mount Airy, passed away Thursday afternoon, June 22, 2017, at Northern Hospital of Surry County. She was born May 9, 1930, in Surry County, to the late Roy and Betty Jane Thomas Matthews. She was a mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend to many. She left an impression on everyone she met and always could find a way to make you laugh. Left to cherish her memory are a son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Barbara Love; a granddaughter and her husband, Lisa and Sam Josey; a grandson and his wife, Yogi and Melinda Love; a special great-grandson, Bo Dee Josey; a sister, Eva Matthews Martin; and her beloved, little dog, R.J. In addition to her parents, Alma was preceded in death by two sisters, Patricia Ann “Cricket” Matthews Hester and Marydell Matthews Taylor; and two brothers, Luther Matthews and Charlie Matthews. A celebration of her life will be held Monday, June 26, 2017, from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy. Grandma was a special kind of person and she never liked to reveal her age. She would often tell someone that it was no one’s business how old she was. She never looked her age and she was always young at heart. In knowing this, we chose not to publish her age. This would definitely make her smile!
