A. C. May

Arlie Clement “A. C.” May, Jr., 82, of Mount Airy, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday evening June 21, 2022.  He was born July 7, 1939, in Alamance County to the late Arlie Clement May, Sr. and Ellie Viola Tingen May.  He was retired owner of May Gutter and Insulation and was a member of New Home Church of Christ.  AC was also a member of the Copeland Masonic Lodge #390 AF and AM, an Associate Patron of the Order of the Eastern Star and a member of The Scottish Rites.  AC was a family man and a strong Christian man.  He had a heart of gold and would do anything for anybody.  His favorite things to do were to watch the Gooch play baseball from middle school through college and to mow yards.  Left to cherish his memory are two daughters and a son-in-law, Sheila and Stan Wilson, and Glenda Shropshire; three grandchildren, Kristi Leigh Shropshire, Kimberley S. Wright and Mitchell, and Nick “Gooch” Wilson; five great-grandchildren, Hayden Hall and Morgan, Griffin Hall, Toliver Wright and Whitney, Tullie Wright and Autumn, and Gavin Wright and Hannah; two great great-grandchildren, Grayson Hall and Baby Wright; four sisters, Martha Clarke, Patsy Porter, Lois Crawford, and Daisy Lincoln, several nieces and nephews, a sister-in-law, Shirley May; brother-in-law and sisters-in-law, Monroe and Louise Bowman, and Sally Bowman; a special friend, Ann Smith; and a host of other family and friends.  In addition to his parents, Mr. May was preceded in death by his first wife and mother of his girls, Louise Bowman May; his second wife, Joann O’Neal May; a brother, Willard Neal May; and a son-in-law, Ronald Clay “Ron” Shropshire.  Funeral services will be held Sunday, June 26, 2022, at New Home Church of Christ at 3:00PM with Pastor Tim Smith officiating.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.  The family will receive friends at the church on Sunday one hour prior to the service.  The family would like to thank the members of South Surry Volunteer Fire Department and Surry County EMS for all of their efforts in AC’s time of need.  Flowers will be accepted, or memorials may be made to New Home Church of Christ or to the Copeland Masonic Lodge.  Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy is serving the May family.
