Ms. Adair Johnson, 57, of Dobson, passed away peacefully at her home on Monday September 25, 2006 after a courageous battle with cancer where she was surrounded by her loving family.A loving and devoted mother, daughter, "grandee" sister, aunt and friend, she will be greatly missed by all who knew her. She was born in Surry County on July 8, 1949 to Irene Whitaker Johnson and the late Clarence Johnson. Ms. Johnson was employed with the Social Services Department and a member of Salem Baptist Church. She is survived by her mother, Irene Whitaker Johnson of Elkin; a daughter and son-in-law Sherry and Bryan Cox of Mt. Airy; a son and daughter-in-law Monty and Jodi Southern of Dobson; three grandchildren Meredith Cox, Avery Cox and Aubrey Southern; a sister Kim Johnson of Dobson; a brother and sister-in-law Eugene and June Johnson of Maggie Valley, NC; special nephews Todd and Chris Johnson; special great niece and nephew Michael and Jessica Johnson. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM Wednesday at Salm Baptist Church with Rev. Bobby Lewis and Rev. Dennis Bledsoe officiatng. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends and visitors on Tuesday from 6 to 8 PM at Salem Baptist church where her body will remain to lie-in-state 30 minutes prior to the funeral service and other times at the home of her sister at 113 Rockford Road. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Salem Baptist Church Building Fund 430 Rockford Road Dobson, NC 27017 or to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care 401 Technology Lane Mt. Airy, NC 27030. The family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation to Hospice and the many friends and neighbors for their many acts of kindness shown to them during the sickness of Ms. Johnson.
