A.L. Goins

MOUNT AIRY – Mr. A.L. Goins, 79, entered into heaven from Northern Hospital of Surry County on Tuesday, May 23, 2017. He was born September 18, 1937, in Stokes County, to the late Harmie Lee and Mary Jane Goins. A.L. graduated from Flat Rock School in 1955, and he later attended Draughn’s Business College in Winston-Salem. Then he traveled with the tobacco market for Winston Leaf Tobacco until 1967, when he started employment at R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company in the accounts payable department. He retired from Reynolds in 1988. He loved and enjoyed singing all his life, first with the Harvestime Quartet and later with New Jerusalem Quartet. He was a dedicated father and grandfather, always doing for others, and served many years as a Sunday school superintendent and a deacon. A.L. was humble, kind, and of strong faith, believing in the power and strength of the love of Jesus Christ. A.L. is survived by three children and their spouses, Cynthia Goins Vipperman (Jimmy), Matthew Vincent Goins (Laura), and Sarah Goins Tickles (Rockey, Jr.); three grandchildren, Samantha Tickles, Rockey Tickles, III, and Katrina Tickles; a brother, Carl O. Goins; and a special niece, Wina Goins Harrell. In addition to his parents, Mr. Goins was preceded in death two sisters, Virginia Goins and Barbara Goins. A celebration of life service will be held Friday, May 26, 2017, at 2:00 PM at Victory Baptist Church, 2120 Riverside Drive, Mount Airy. The service will be conducted by the Rev. Joey Jessup, and burial will follow at Skyline Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends Thursday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy, where his body will remain until carried to the church to lie-in-state one hour prior to the funeral service.
