Albert James Coe

Mr. Albert James "A.J." Coe, 83, of 230 Pentecostal Holiness Church Road, Mount Airy, passed away Wednesday night, April 22, 2009, at his home. Mr. Coe was born February 27, 1926, in Surry County, to the late Sherman Lester and Maggie Lou Atkins Coe. He served our country in the United States Army during World War II and retired as an electrician from the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (Winston-Salem local) after 30 years of service. Mr. Coe was a member of Flat Rock Baptist Church. He is survived by a daughter, Jancie Coe Poplin of the home; two grandchildren, Beth Poplin and husband, Tim Higgins, of Mount Airy and Robert Overton Poplin, IV of Richmond, VA; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Coe was preceded in death by his wife, Pauline Midkiff Coe; a sister, Beatrice Coe Mossor; and three infant brothers, Jesse Lester Coe, Dewey Franklin Coe, and Harvey Conrad Coe. A graveside service will be held Saturday, April 25, 2009, at 2:00 PM at Midkiff Cemetery, with the Rev. Todd E. Byrd officiating. The family will receive friends Friday from 7:00 to 9:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy.
