Mr. Albert Henry "Red" Hicks, 74, of Newport, formerly of Mount Airy, passed away Tuesday, May 7, 2013, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson. He was born August 28, 1938, in Carroll County, VA, to the late Fred and Nancy Hiatt Hicks. Mr. Hicks served in the United States Army and worked for the Mount Airy Police Department for several years. He was the owner and operator of Hicks Kawasaki and Marineland in Mount Airy, and he later operated the Mayberry Flea Market before retiring to the coast to spend his time fishing. He is survived by the son of his first wife, Jeffrey Allen Ring of Newport; the children of his second wife, Lisa Wilkinson and husband, Bill Leake, of Roanoke, and Ed Goad and wife, Melinda, of Huntsville, AL, Glen Goad and wife, Melissa, of Danville, VA; and seven stepgrandchildren. In addition to his parents, Mr. Hicks was preceded in death by his first wife, Gay Elizabeth Hylton Hicks; his second wife, Wilma Hylton Hicks; and a sister, Sallie Fulk. The funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 AM Friday, May 10, 2013, at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy by Dr. Jon Cawley. Burial will follow at Skyline Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends Thursday, May 9, 2013, from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at the funeral home.
