Alfred L. Cruise

Alfred Lee Cruise of Bassett, VA passed away at SOVAH Hospital on May 16, 2018 at the age of 87.  He was the son of late Robert and Sally Turner Cruise of Meadows of Dan, VA.  He was preceded in death by nine siblings; Emma Cruise Helms, Mary Cruise Pendleton, James Cruise, Clemmie Cruise Martin, Jesse Cruise, Josie Cruise Belcher, Elmer Cruise, Hoy Cruise, and his twin sister Ruth Cruise Hylton.

Surviving are his wife of 62 years, Dorothy Belcher Cruise and four children; Donna (Gary) Cruise Handy, David (Kim) Cruise, Lester (Fred) Cruise, and Thomas (Jane) Cruise.  Alfred also leaves behind 7 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. 

After serving in the Korean War, Alfred became a foreman at J.D. Bassett Furniture Company and retired as a printing pressman at Bassett Printing Company.  He was an avid hunter, fisherman, and gardener who was well-known for making tasty tomato juice and wine.

Funeral services for Mr. Cruise will be held at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Stuart, VA on Saturday, May 19, 2018 at 2:00 PM with Pastors Maynard Baker and Clyde Foley officiating with military rites by the Patrick County Veterans Memorial Honor Guard.  Burial will immediately follow at Connors View Primitive Baptist church cemetery in Meadows of Dan, VA.  The family will receive friends two hours prior to the service at the funeral home.  Online condolences may be sent to www.moodyfuneralservices.com.
