Alfred William "Al" Southern

Mr. Alfred William "Al" Southern, age 63, of Elkin went to be with his Lord on Sunday evening September 14, 2008 at his home. He was born in Forsyth Co. on March 19, 1945 to the late James Raleigh Southern and to Pauline Martin Southern.. He attended School in Winston Salem and where was a member of the First Baptist Church. He then attended Chowan College. Later he moved to Georgia to work for Roadway Express as terminal manager. He then returned to N.C. and worked at N.C. Foam Industries for fourteen years. He loved this job more than all the others, and had many wonderful friends. Surviving are his daughter and son-in law Trena Southern and Mitchell Pearce of Lewisville, NC; two sons James Martin Southern and William Dale Southern both of Elkin; his mother Pauline Martin Southern of Elkin, two aunts Shirley Martin of Elkin and Patricia Walker of Winston Salem, NC; Several cousins; the mother of his children Lynn Doub Southern, of Elkin; a great boss at NCFI Tim Montgomery of Mt. Airy. A graveside service will be held 4:30 PM Wednesday in the cemetery of Salem Fork Christian Church, with Rev. James Hobernicht conducting the services. The family will receive friends at Moody-Davis Funeral Home on Tuesday evening from 6 PM until 8 PM and at other times at his mother's home 2857 Zephyr Rd. Elkin, NC 28621. His Mother said she thanked her Father in Heaven today for a son and a friend who's loving and comforting smile made life easy to hang on a bit longer. She thanked him for the soul so dear. God took him home. Now as she kneeled in a corner to pray to her father in Heaven where light expansion goes on forever.
