Mrs. Alice Athelene Thomas Ayers, 71, of Cana, VA, passed away peacefully on Tuesday morning at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson surrounded by her loving husband and friends. She was born in Carroll County, on May 2, 1949 to the late Charlie Roe Thomas and Sarah Jane Ayers Thomas. She retired from Cockerham’s Printing Company after many years of service. She was a loving wife and friend. Left to cherish her memory are her husband, William Franklin “Bub” Ayers of the home, two sisters and brothers-in-law, Gert Collins, Pat and Robert Smith, and Glenn Grey; a brother and sister-in-law, Clifton “Bo” and Louise Thomas; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Ayers was preceded in death by a sister, Oma Grey; and a brother, Charlie Monroe Thomas. Respecting the current limitations of numbers for public gatherings currently (COVID-19), a private graveside service will be held at Mt. Bethel Moravian Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mt. Bethel Moravian Church Cemetery Fund, c/o Bonnie Ayers, 2119 Wards Gap Rd., Cana, VA 24317.
