Alice Elizabeth Birks

Mrs. Alice Elizabeth Hinshaw Birks, 76 of Mount Airy, passed away on Thursday night, May 31, 2018 at Surry Community Health and Rehab.  She was born in Surry County on January 15, 1942 to the late Herbert Oscar Hinshaw and Beulah Mae Williams Hinshaw.  Mrs. Birks was a member of St. Paul Church of the Brethren.  Left to cherish her memory are a daughter, Bonita Jean Birks; a sister, Frances Freeman; a brother and sister-in-law, Austin Cecil Hinshaw and wife Lela; several nieces and nephews; and special friends, Steve and Annette Golding, Madison Golding, Chelsea Golding, and Steve and Elaine O’Neal.  In addition to her parents, Mrs. Birks was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Clayton Birks, III; a daughter, Victoria Elizabeth Birks; a son, Tommy Steven Birks; a sister, Deanna Beeson; and a brother, Haywood Hinshaw.  A graveside service will be held at Oakdale Cemetery on Sunday, June 3, 2018 at 3:00pm with Rev. Ricky Spencer officiating.  The family will receive friends at Moody Funeral Home on Sunday from 2:00pm until time to go to the graveside.  Flowers will be accepted or memorial donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 2451 Crystal Drive, Suite 900, Arlington, VA 22202 or 1-800-DIABETES.  The family would like to extend a Thank You to Mountain Valley Hospice and Surry Community Health and Rehab for all of the love and care shown to Mrs. Birks.
