Alice Seal Horton

Mrs. Alice Seal Horton, 97, of the Eastern Star Home in Greensboro, formerly of Mount Airy, passed away Tuesday morning, September 22, 2009, at the Eastern Star Home. She was the widow of Troy Edgar Horton. Mrs. Horton was born April 22, 1912, in Surry County, to the late William Lonzo Seal and Mamie Victoria Younger Seal. She was a member of Antioch Baptist Church and a member of the Mount Airy Chapter #18 Order of the Eastern Star. Surviving are a son and two daughters-in-law, Owen and Ruby Horton of Winston-Salem and Priscilla Horton of Mount Airy; eight grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; two half-sisters, Bessie Johnson of Mount Airy and Helen Hayes of Pilot Mountain; a half-brother, Cecil Seal of Wilmington; and two special aunts, Lizzie Hawks and Josie Seal, both of Mount Airy. In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Horton was preceded in death by a son, Lawrence Horton; a grandson, Paul Horton; and a great-grandson, Shade Helton. The funeral service will be held Thursday, September 24, 2009, at 3:00 PM at Antioch Baptist Church, with the Rev. Dale Wallace officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends in the fellowship hall of Antioch Baptist Church immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Antioch Baptist Church Bus Fund, 127 Antioch Avenue, Mount Airy, NC 27030.
