Alice Joleen Lawrence

Mrs. Alice “Joleen” Weddle Lawrence, 83, of Mt. Airy passed away Tuesday, February 8, 2022, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson.  She was born in Caretta, WV, on August 28, 1938, to the late John Daniel and Bertha ArDella Horton Weddle.  God gave her and her family so many miracles.  She believes to live one day at time and give God the glory.  Mrs. Lawrence was a faithful member of Flippin Memorial Baptist Church for 61 years where she held many positions, Women’s Missionary Union, Sunday School Teacher, Vacation Bible School, Visiting and caring for others.  She was a member of 4-Way Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary for 30 years.  Joleen loved making quilts, canning and doing crafts.  She is survived by daughters and sons-in-law, Donna and Jeff Shelton, Anita and Brent Hull; a son and daughter-in-law, Jimmy and Lisa Lawrence; eight grandchildren, Travis and Melinda Burnett, Newly and Kandy Burnett, Danielle Hull, Megan Hull, Rachel and Bailey Holderfield, Jordan Lawrence, Justin Lawrence, Payton Lawrence; thirteen great grandchildren; one great great granddaughter; a sister and brother-in-law, Sue and Howard Via; many nieces and nephews.  In addition to her parents, Mrs. Lawrence was preceded in death by her husband Keith Lawrence; a daughter, Rita Lawrence; a sister and brother-in-law, Betty and Bill Warf; stepsisters, Bernadine Semonos, Lucille DuChanois, Kathleen Weddle.  A funeral service will be held Sunday, February 13, 2022, at 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Tim Burton and the Rev. Ricky Atkins officiating.  Burial will follow in Korners Grove Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.  The family will receive friends Sunday from 12:00 until 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mt. Airy.  Flowers will be accepted, or memorial contributions may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 401 Technology Lane, Suite 200, Mt.
