Alice Horton

Mrs. Alice “Leavie” Goins Horton, 95, of Mount Airy, passed away Tuesday, March 16, 2021, at her home, surrounded by her loving family.  She was born November 22, 1925, in Carroll County, VA, to the late James and Ella Phillips Goins.  Mrs. Horton retired from Spencer’s Inc. and was a charter member of Faith Baptist Church.  She is survived by a daughter, Irene Boyd; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Ellis and Cathy Horton and Roy Horton; a special grandson, Willie Gwyn; a special niece, Peggy Tolbert; her grandchildren, David Horton, Terry Horton, Rocky Horton, Stephanie and Stephen Bray, Jeremy McKeithan, Willie and Christie Gwyn, Misty and Kevin Taylor, and Wendy Boyd Venable; a stepgrandchild, Angie Tickle; her great-grandchildren, Beverly Horton, Alicia Horton, Heather Horton, Madison Bray, Dylan Bray, Jayden McKeithan, Sydney Gwyn, Colburn and Kendra Gwyn, Camden Taylor, Lacey Taylor, and Ethan Venable; a great-great-grandchild, Xavier Aviles; a brother and sister-in-law, James Edward and Jeannie Goins; and her fur babies, Tom Tom and Precious.  In addition to her parents, Mrs. Horton was preceded in death by her husband, Benton Albert Horton; two daughters, Rosie Inez Horton and Shirley Horton McKeithan; a great-grandson, Brandon Lee Horton; a son-in-law, Tommy Boyd, Jr.; a daughter-in-law, Norma Lee Horton; four sisters, Alma Pike, Betty Noah, Veldia Wood, and Elvira Joyce; and two brothers, Hurley Goins and Bud Goins.  The funeral service will be held Friday, March 19, 2021, at 2:00 PM at Faith Baptist Church, with the Rev. Randy Edwards officiating.  Burial will follow at Oakdale Cemetery.  The family will receive friends Friday from 12:30 until 2:00 PM at the church.  Due to public health concerns, attendees are requested to wear a face mask and practice social distancing.  Flowers will be accepted, or memorial contributions may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 401 Technology Lane, Suite 200, Mount Airy, NC  27030; or Faith Baptist Church, 217 Faith Baptist Church Way, Mount Airy, NC  27030.  Special appreciation is extended to the staff at Central Continuing Care, Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, and her caregivers, Linda Boyd, Camden Taylor, and Christie Gwyn.  Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy is serving the family.
