Alice Verona Lowry Smith

Mrs. Alice Verona Lowry Smith, 76, of 220 Belton Road, Mount Airy, passed away Monday, May 17, 2010, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson. She was born January 22, 1934, in Surry County, to the late Fred and Madera Smith Lowry. Verona retired from Sara Lee and was a member of Flippin Memorial Baptist Church. Surviving are her husband, James Herman Smith of the home; two sons and a daughter-in-law, James "Tex" and Hazel Smith of Mount Airy and Terry L. Smith of Kernersville; and two grandchildren, Krista Allyson Smith and James Zachary Smith, both of Mount Airy. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by two sisters, Patricia Chilton and Norma Jean Parker. A memorial service will be held Thursday, May 20, 2010, at 7:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with the Rev. Todd E. Byrd officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home, 945 Zephyr Rod, Dobson, NC 27017.
