Mrs. Aligene Avanell Gilley Pell, 78 of Mount Airy, passed away Thursday afternoon, September 24, 2020, at Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital in Elkin. Mrs. Pell was born March 20, 1942, in Surry County, to the late Curry Lee and Mildred Reeves Brown Gilley. She was a loving mother, who will surely be missed by all who knew her. Left to cherish her memories are a daughter, Teresa Pell; a brother, David Gilley; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Mack and Ann Pell; several nieces and nephews; and a very special friend and son that she never had, Harry Vaughn. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Pell was preceded in death by her husband, Norman Phillips Pell. A graveside service will be held Sunday, September 27, 2020, at 2:00 PM at Skyline Memory Gardens, with the Rev. Jeff Wall officiating. No formal visitation will be held; however, anyone wishing to pay their respects may do so on Sunday from 9:00 AM until 1:30 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Cancer Services of Winston-Salem, 3175 Maplewood Avenue, Winston-Salem, NC 27103.
