Mr. Allen Keith Bailey, Sr., 96, of Pilot Mountain, passed away peacefully at his home on Monday morning, July 3, 2023. He is survived by his four children, Allen Keith Bailey, Jr. of San Diego, CA, Beth Bailey of Sarasota, FL, Owen Bailey of Pilot Mountain, and Cathy Edwards of Wales, United Kingdom. He is also survived by six grandchildren, Michael Bailey of San Diego, CA, Zoriana Lee of Asheville, Aled Edwards and Cerys Edwards, both of Wales, United Kingdom, Erin Bartelt of Candler, and Cameron Bartelt of Cleveland, OH; two nephews; and two nieces. Mr. Bailey was born July 20, 1926, in Lawrence, KS, to the late Harry Allen and Almyra Elizabeth Springer Bailey. He moved with his parents and three sisters to Virginia when he was 10 years old. He was a veteran of the United States Army, joining at 18 years old. He served as a paratrooper in Japan at the end of World War II. Mr. Bailey moved to Pilot Mountain in 1968, with his second wife, Jurmaine Bailey, and he was a small business owner for more than 50 years. He was a beloved father, grandfather, brother, and friend of many in his community. He was an avid outdoorsman and taught his four children to love fishing and other outdoor activities. He cherished his trips to the Outer Banks for surf fishing for drum each fall. He loved growing vegetables and would always plant a large garden for his family and neighbors. In his later years, he enjoyed traveling to visit children and grandchildren. A memorial service will be held Saturday, July 8, 2023, at 11:00 AM at Woodville Baptist Church. He will be laid to rest in the Woodville Baptist Church Cemetery.
