Mrs. Alma Louise Welch Breeden, 91, of Ridgecrest Lane, Mount Airy, died Saturday, January 30, 2010, at Northern Hospital of Surry County after a brief illness. She was born September 7, 1918, in Mount Airy, to the late Walter Presley and Lula McGee Welch. She graduated from Mount Airy High School and attended Appalachian College. She married the late Claude Mebane Breeden on August 10, 1941. They were married 55 years and lived in Raleigh and Southern Pines where she worked in the business office of Moore County Hospital. They retired to Mount Airy in 1982. She was a member of the Mount Airy Friends Meeting. She is survived by her son, David Pritchett Breeden and his wife, Phyllis, of Laurinburg; a grandson, Jonathan David Breeden and his wife, Beth, of Garner; a granddaughter, Jessica B. Moran and her husband, Jon, of Raleigh; great-grandchildren, Mary Claire Moran and David Ross Breeden; a sister, Helen Gardner Hutchens of Mount Airy; and a sister-in-law, Mary S. Welch of Kathleen, GA. In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Breeden was preceded in death by a sister and brother-in-law, Clara Belle and Evan Charles Brown; and a brother, Walter McGee "Giggi" Welch. A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held in the club room of Ridgecrest Retirement and Assisted Living Community, 1000 Ridgecrest Lane, Mount Airy, on Wednesday, February 3, 2010, at 1:30 PM by Dr. Jon Cawley. Interment will be at Oakdale Cemetery prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Mount Airy Friends Meeting, 109 West Wilson Street, Mount Airy, NC 27030.
