Alma Oleane Bunn Cornett

Mrs. Alma Oleane Bunn Cornett, 95, of Mount Airy, passed away Tuesday morning, September 12, 2017, at her home. Mrs. Cornett was born February 26, 1922, in Carroll County, VA, one of three children born to the late David Ed and Lena Pearl Horton Bunn. Oleane retired from Spencer’s Inc. after many years of service and was a member of Fancy Gap Baptist Church. She is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Sandra and Ray Dunbar and Pam and George Frye, all of Mount Airy, and Anita and John Lester of Pilot Mountain; a son and daughter-in-law, Rickey and Melinda Cornett of Dobson; eight grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Cornett was preceded in death by her husband, J. Gleason Cornett; a daughter, Sylvia Dawn Cornett; two sons, Ronnie Gleason Cornett and Sammie Donald Cornett; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Clayton and Ruth Bunn and Haywood and Opalene Bunn; and her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Grover and Ollie Hash Cornett. The funeral service will be held Saturday, September 16, 2017, at 2:00 PM at Fancy Gap Baptist Church, with the Rev. Dwight Sechrist and Elder Eddie Bunn officiating. Burial will follow at Skyline Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends Saturday from 1:00 until 2:00 PM at the church. The family wishes to express their gratitude for the love and compassion shown by her caregivers, Judy Taylor and Nancy Mitchell, and the staff at Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care.
