Mrs. Alma Doss Deatherage, 86, formerly of 126 West End Drive, Mount Airy, passed away Friday, June 8, 2007, at Surry Community Nursing Center. Mrs. Deatherage was born April 27, 1921, in Surry County, to the late James Oscar and Matilda Gertrude Creed Doss. She was retired from Renfro Corporation and a member of Piney Grove Baptist Church. Most importantly, Alma was a devoted and loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Carrol Hunter of Mount Airy and Kay and Barry Culp of Dobson; five grandchildren and spouses, Donna and David Dotson of Rocky Mount, VA, Tina and Todd Butcher and Kevin and Kim Patterson, all of Mount Airy, Todd Simmons and Mandy Edwards of Pfafftown, and Shannon and Scott Morgan of Pittsboro; six great grandchildren and a spouse, Denise and C.J. Arrington of Wirtz, VA, Scott Dotson of Roanoke, VA, Luke Butcher, Laken Patterson, and Katelyn Patterson, all of Mount Airy, and Nolan Simmons of Pfafftown; a sister-in-law, Lillian Doss of Mount Airy; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Deatherage was preceded in death by her husband, Nathiel Jackson Deatherage; a son-in-law, Dennis Lee Hunter; and three brothers, Check Doss, Cliff Doss, and Harry Doss. A service to celebrate Alma's life will be held Sunday, June 10, 2007, at 3:00 PM at Piney Grove Baptist Church. The service will be conducted by the Rev. Stewart R. Mauck and the Rev. Kermit L. Gray, and burial will follow in the Oakdale Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Piney Grove Baptist Church.
