Alma Stanley Southard

Mrs. Alma Stanley Southard, 91, of Elkin, passed away Saturday afternoon June 26, 2010, at Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital. She was born January 19, 1919, in Surry County, to the late Malery and Ida White Stanley. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Southard was preceded in death by her husband, Spurgeon Southard; a daughter, Sandra Southard; and a brother, Harold Stanley. Alma was a member of Bessie's Chapel Baptist Church and retired from Guardian Care Nursing Home. Surviving are a daughter, Peggy Crouse of Thurmond; two sons and daughters-in-law, Algeron and Frances Southard and Windell and Dorothy Southard, all of Elkin; seven grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Betty Jean Flinchum of Elkin; and a sister-in-law, Peggy Stanley of Elkin. The funeral service will be held Tuesday, June 29, 2010, at 2:00 PM at Bessie's Chapel Baptist Church, with the Rev. Ralph Grose officiating. Burial will follow in the Mulberry Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery. Her body will remain at Moody-Davis Funeral Home in Dobson until carried to the church to lie-in-state 30 minutes prior to the service. The family will receive friends Monday from 7:00 to 8:30 PM at Moody-Davis Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Tuesday at Bessie’s Chapel Baptist Church with burial to follow in the Mulberry Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery. Her body will remain at Moody-Davis Funeral Home in Dobson until carried to the church to lie in state 30 min. before the service. Rev. Ralph Grose will officiate the service. The Family will receive friends on Monday evening from 7:00 PM until 8:30 PM at Moody-Davis Funeral Home.
