Alonzo "Al" Lowe

Mr. Alonzo "Al" Lowe, 78, of Lowgap, passed away Tuesday, September 21, 2010, at his home. Mr. Lowe was born August 18, 1932, in Surry County, to the late Alonza L Lowe, Sr. and Ophelia Kirby Lowe. He served two years in the United States Amry. He retired from A and P after 30 year of service and later worked for Safeway for over 10 years. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and a member of the church choir. Mr. Lowe is survived by a sister, Ila Rose Butcher of Lowgap; three sisters-in-law, Kate Lowe and Carol Lowe, both of Lowgap, and Nina Lowe of Gloucester, VA; several nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Fairy Zach. In addition to his parents, Mr. Lowe was preceded in death by two sisters, Alene Lowe and Noreen Wilson; and four brothers, Eldridge Lowe, Siegle Lowe, Atwood Lowe, and Wallace Lowe. The funeral service will be held Friday, September 24, 2010, at 2:00 PM at Calvary Baptist Church, with the Rev. David Burgess officiating. The body will lie-in-state 30 minutes prior to service. Burial will follow in the Kirby Family Cemetery, with military honors by the VFW Memorial Honor Guard. The family will receive friends Thursday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at Calvary Baptist Church.
