Alpha Elizabeth Smith Terry

Mrs. Alpha Elizabeth Smith Terry, 88, of Mount Airy, passed away Thursday, April 9, 2009, at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem. Mrs. Terry was born October 7, 1920, in Patrick County, VA, daughter of the late Henry Fulce Smith and Ida Puckett Smith. She retired from Quality Mills and was a member of Dover Baptist Church. Surviving are three daughters and sons-in-law, Carolyn and Jack Hooks and Judy and Ivan McMillian, all of Mount Airy, and Barbara and Joe Shelton of Ararat, NC; a son and daughter-in-law, Burton and Mary Terry of Pinnacle; nineteen grandchildren; forty-five great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Reba Dellenback of Ararat, VA, and Pearlie Gunnell of Mount Airy. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Terry was preceded in death by her husband, Carmie E. Terry; a son, Thomas Elwin Terry; a grandchild; three great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Lacy Smith and Tyler Smith. The funeral service will be held Monday, April 13, 2009, at 1:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy. The service will be conducted by the Rev. J. Cecil Hill and the Rev. Arnold Terry, and burial will follow at Oakdale Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the funeral home.
