Miss Alyssia Lacole Adkins passed away from this earthly life and entered into God’s hands on Sunday, April 14, 2024. Alyssia was a vibrant member of every team that she was a part of throughout her short life. She embodied the very best qualities a family and friends could ever hope for through her character, love, warmth, and in her generous spirit. At the time of her passing, Alyssia was working as a Certified Nursing Assistant in the Dementia Unit at Salisbury Health and Rehabilitation. She was doing what was most important to her – helping care for elderly patients and serving others. These were Alyssia’s true passions. More than anything, Alyssia loved sharing life with her family and friends. She was an enthusiastic supporter of all: cheering family and friends on at sporting events, graduations, equestrian shows, concerts, and any other events that involved the ones she cared for. Alyssia was many things. She made loving relationships with those she met through school, college, work, sports, care-giving and faith communities. She loved playing basketball, running track, and helping with the high school football teams that her father coached. Alyssia was a proud fan of the Alabama Crimson Tide and the UNC Tarheels. She was also the biggest fan of Lebron James and WWE Star Roman Reigns. Alyssia loved trips to the beach and laying in the hot sand to “get her tan on”. She also had a true heart for animals and pets. Alyssia was selfless, kind, strong, persistent, and an authentic friend. Her smile was infectious and could light up a room instantly upon entry. Alyssia is survived by her parents JK and Shanda Adkins of Mount Airy; brothers Jaylin Salter (Sarah Billings) of Greensboro, Ty Adkins of Marion, Thomas Hickey of Delaware, Temarijuan Hickey and Emmanuel Torres of Salisbury; sisters Alexis Woodson (Austin Reed), Makayla Adkins (Tahj Darity), Savannah Adkins of Marion, Teeasia Nunn and Teya Hickey of Salisbury; Biological parents Cassandra Woodson of Salisbury and Joshua Salter of Alabama; Grandparents Linda Hughes of Drexel, Randy and Cathleen Adkins of Morganton; Special Aunts and Uncles Marta Franklin (Eric Franklin) of Morganton, Tara McGarrigan (DJ McGarrigan) of Greensboro, Christina Ritchie (Stephen Ritchie) of Drexel and Brandy Lark of Salisbury. Alyssia was also preceded in death by twin brothers John and James Woodson of Salisbury.
A celebration of Alyssia’s life will take place beginning with visitation of family and friends on Saturday April 20th from 10am-12pm at First Baptist Church of Mount Airy, NC. Service to honor her life will begin at 12pm in the church sanctuary. Alyssia will be transported to Rowan Memorial Park in Salisbury, NC, for a continued service and burial. The family requests that any memorial donations be made to the Alyssia Adkins Scholarship fund at Mt. Airy High School to honor student athletes who have shown persistence in overcoming obstacles in their lives. The family would like to thank all who have expressed their prayers, love and support for Alyssia during this time.
