Ambrose Lafayette "A.L." Dowell, Jr.

Mr. Ambrose “A.L.” Lafayette Dowell, Jr., 95, of Mt. Airy passed away Monday, December 03, 2018 at his home.  He was born in Surry County on June 25, 1923 to the late Ambrose Lafayette Dowell, Sr and Lessie Deatherage Dowell.  Mr. Dowell was owner and operator of Dowell Signs and was of the Baptist faith.  He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Wanda and Ricky Gunnell; sons and daughter-in-law, Jerry Dowell, Larry and Vicki Dowell; grandchildren, Kayla Gunnell, Amanda (Zack) Crissman, Tabitha Easter, Tracy Gunnell, Kiefer Dowell, Autumn Dowell; a great grandchild, Hunter Easter; sisters and brother-in-law, Opal Marion, Thelma Dowell, Nancy and AL Adams, Carolyne Churchill; brother and sisters-in-law, Jimmy and Carole Dowell, Mary Dowell; many nieces and nephews.  In addition to his parents, Mr. Dowell was preceded in death by his wife, Camalure Hooker Dowell; a son, Fred Dowell; a great grandchild, Jordan Crissman; sisters, Edith Joyce, Betty Neese, and Patricia Terrell; brothers, Roscoe Dowell, Leo Dowell, Byron Dowell, Charles Dowell, Harry Dowell, and Jack Dowell.  A graveside service will be held Thursday, December 6, 2018 at 2:00 PM at Skyline Memory Gardens with Brother Zack Crissman, Brother Tracy Gunnell, and the Rev. J.R. Shelton officiating.  The family will receive friends Wednesday night from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mt.
