Angus Jackson Tucker

 

Angus Jackson Tucker, 91, of Pilot Mountain, NC passed away peacefully at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson on February 10, 2023.  Born on February 2, 1932 in Pilot Mountain, NC, he was the son of Reverend George Arthur and Regina Jackson Tucker.  Mr. Tucker leaves behind to cherish his memory, a daughter, Lisa (Steve) Holler of Wallburg, a son, Mark (Wendy) Tucker of Pilot Mountain, two granddaughters, Avery Tucker and Hadly Tucker (Ben Osborne) and great grandson, Greyson Tucker Osborne, all of Pilot Mountain.  He is also survived by two brothers-in-law, Walter Nichols of Pilot Mountain and Donald (Faye) Terrell of Ararat, NC, along with several nieces and nephews. 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 62 years, Mary Frances Terrell Tucker along with five brothers, Joel Dennis (Monnie) Tucker, Howard (Hazel) Tucker, George B. (Juanita) Tucker, John Raymond “Buck” (Juanita) Tucker, and James Tucker; four sisters, Lillian Tucker, Gladys (Fred) Smith, Mary Ethel (Radford) Bowman, and Shirley Nichols. 

Angus attended Copeland School and was a veteran of the United States Navy serving in the Korean War while earning several medals of valor.  He was also a member of Hills Grove Baptist Church where his father served as pastor for several years.  He retired from Surry Community College serving as the lead automotive instructor. 

After designing and constructing the baseball field on the Surry Community College campus in 1998, the college honored him with the naming of Angus J. Tucker Field in 2008.  Mr. Tucker also enjoyed turkey hunting with his best friend, Eddie Tucker and working on classic cars. 

No formal services will be held at the funeral home.  A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, February 14, 2023 at 2:00 pm at Hills Grove Baptist Church with full Military Honors by Veterans of Foreign Wars Memorial Honor Guard Mount Airy Post 2019 and Pilot Mountain Post 9436.  Reverend Cory Honeycutt will officiate the service. 

In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials be made to Surry Knights Athletic Club, 630 South Main Street, Dobson, NC  27017.  Moody-Davis Funeral Home of Dobson is serving the Tucker family.
