Mrs. Anna Carolyn Moore York, 85, of Mount Airy, passed away Friday morning, January 11, 2019, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson. Mrs. York was born on her mother’s birthday, September 25, 1933, on the family farm in Siloam, to the late Dwight and Etta Jones Moore. She was a member of White Plains Friends Meeting, where she was a member of the choir, USFW, and Young at Heart. Carolyn retired from The Mount Airy News after 29 years of dedicated service. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Robin and Dale White of Dobson; a son and daughter-in-law, Russell McKinley “Rusty” York, Jr. and Tobi York of Mount Airy; six grandchildren, Crystal White Branch (Jimmy), Sheena White Jestes (James), Tina White (Joey Moser), McKinley York (Kaley Cornelison), Hunter York (Katie Sidden), and Walker York; three great-grandchildren, Karson Branch, Eric Branch, and Kerrington Anna Jestes; a sister, Frances Moore Smith of Cary; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Mrs. York was preceded in death by her husband, Russell McKinley York, Sr.; her stepmother, Hazel Moore; a sister and brother-in-law, Bonnie and Jim Fletcher; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Audrey and Hilda Moore and Mitchell and Magdalene Moore; a brother-in-law, Lathan Smith; and a stepbrother and his wife, Weldon Jackson Campbell, Sr. and Hettie Campbell. A service of worship and celebration of Carolyn’s life will be held Monday, January 14, 2019, at 11:00 AM at White Plains Friends Meeting, with the Rev. Jake Penley, Pastor J. Loyd Pugh, and the Rev. Nelson Puffenbarger officiating. The family will receive friends Monday from 9:30 until 11:00 AM at the church. The family wishes to express their gratitude for the love and compassion shown by the staff at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the White Plains Friends Meeting Building Fund, 849 Old Highway 601, Mount Airy, NC 27030; or the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home, 945 Zephyr Road, Dobson, NC 27017. Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy is serving the family.
