Mrs. Annie Shelton Belton, 85, of 196 Glass Road, Mount Airy, passed away Tuesday, April 21, 2009, at Northern Hospital of Surry County. Mrs. Belton was born October 13, 1923, in Surry County, to the late Ramey and Clennie Etta Rakes Shelton. She retired from Renfro Corporation after many years of service and was a member of Shelton Church of the Brethren. She is survived by her husband, Robert Edward "Ed" Belton of the home; a son and daughter-in-law, James and Sharon Belton of Mount Airy; two grandsons, Drew Belton and special friend, Patty La Rovere, of Mars Hill and Eric Belton of Mount Airy; four sisters and three brothers-in-law, Parabelle S. Hiatt, Betty and Mickey Hall, and Jean and Harvey Arrington, all of Mount Airy, and Dorothy and Don Baynes of Danville, VA; and six brothers sisters-in-law, Roy and Betty Jo Shelton, Don and Bonnie Shelton, and Paul and Ethylene Shelton, all of Mount Airy, Wade and Mary Shelton of Taylors, SC, Buddy and Donna Shelton of Gresham, OR, and Charles and Mac Shelton of Anchorage, AK. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Belton was preceded in death by two sisters, Frances Faye Shelton and Ruth Shelton Mills; and a brother, Russell Shelton. The funeral service will be held Friday, April 24, 2009, at 11:00 AM at Shelton Church of the Brethren, with the Rev. Marvin Wade and the Rev. Jerry Keegan officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy, where her body will remain until carried to the church to lie-in-state 30 minutes before the funeral service. Flowers will be accepted, or memorials may be made to the Shelton Church of the Brethren, 1065 Quaker Road, Mount Airy, NC 27030.
