Mrs. Annie Louise Edwards Blue, 100, of Mount Airy, passed away Wednesday, August 18, 2010, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home. Mrs. Blue was born September 9, 1909, in Surry County, to James Edward and Annie Laura Watkins Edwards. She retried from Renfro Corporation and was a charter member of the Mount Airy Fire Department Ladies' Auxiliary and a member of First Baptist Church. Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Mary Louise and Jack Voight of Myrtle Beach, SC; a son and daughter-in-law, John and Sue Blue of Brandon, FL; grandchildren, James Michael Simmons, Jr. and his wife, Linda, of Mount Airy and Tina Simmons Wilson of Denver; great-grandchildren, James Michael Simmons, III and his fiancé, Heather Goins, and Ashley Wilson; sisters and brother-in-law, Mildred and Bruce Carr and Jane Newman, all of Mount Airy; and a brother, Robert Edwards of Mount Airy. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Blue was preceded in death by her husband, Dan Blue; a granddaughter, Brenda Blue; sisters, Ruby Johnson and Mary Neal; and brothers, Claude Edwards and Ed Edwards. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, August 21, 2010, at First Baptist Church, with Dr. Roger Gilbert and the Rev. Todd Byrd officiating. The family will receive friends in the Fireside Room at First Baptist Church from 10:00 AM until the hour of the service. Burial will be in the Piney Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. The family would like to express their deep appreciation to the staff of Ridgecrest and the staff of the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home, and Dr. Kerley for the tremendous care given to Mrs. Blue. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home, 945 Zephyr Road, Dobson, NC 27017; to First Baptist Church, 714 North Main Street, Mount Airy, NC 27030; or to a charity of the donor's choice.
