Mrs. Annie Louise Luther Haynes, 86, of Mount Airy, passed away Tuesday morning, March 11, 2025, at Northern Regional Hospital. Mrs. Haynes was born March 20, 1938, in Rockingham County, the daughter of the late Lloyd and Mozelle Scott Luther. Louise grew up in Draper, now Eden, and graduated from John Motley Morehead High School in 1956. Following high school, she earned her bachelor’s degree from The University of North Carolina at Greensboro. She dedicated her life to shaping young minds, touching the lives of countless students throughout her career as a passionate and devoted teacher. Louise retired in 1990 after 30 years of service in public education, spending 28 years of her career as a science teacher at North Surry High School. She will be remembered not only for her dedication to education but also for her kindness, wisdom, and the encouragement she provided to generations of students. Louise was a longtime and faithful member of Mount Airy Friends Meeting. She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Christopher Keith Haynes and Angela Scofield and John David Haynes, Jr. and Elizabeth Kelk; three grandchildren, Emily Haynes, Ryan Toole, and Braeden Haynes; and a great-grandchild, Landon Haynes. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Haynes was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, John David “Coach John” Haynes; and a sister, Nancy Sadler. A private graveside service will be held at Crestwood Memorial Gardens (914 US 21, State Road) for her family. No formal visitation will be held. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Surry County Schools Educational Foundation, 209 North Crutchfield Street, Dobson, NC 27017. Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy is serving the family.
