Annie Smith

Mrs. Annie Laurie Smith, 85, of Mount Airy, passed away Monday, May 31, 2021, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson.  She was born November 6, 1935, in Surry County, to the late Posey Raines and Nellie Scott Marion.  She was a dedicated member of Highland Park Baptist Church, where she was active with the WMU in the church as well as the Surry Baptist Association.  She served as a Sunday school teacher, served on mission trips, prison ministry, and held backyard Bible clubs.  Mrs. Smith was a hospice volunteer and active in cancer support groups.  She loved her family, church, and church family.  Mrs. Smith will be lovingly remembered by a daughter and son-in-law, Jan and Leon Whitaker; a son and daughter-in-law, David and Karen Smith; her grandchildren and their spouses, Shannon and Joey Collins, Shawn and Amanda Whitaker, Chad and Leigh Ann Smith, Tracy and Brian Snow, and Justin Smith; her great-grandchildren, Kara Collins, Sara Collins, Kaci Collins, Olivia Whitaker, Macey Whitaker, Elijah Smith, Ava Smith, Everleigh Smith, and Madison Snow; and a great-great grandchild, Asa McCloud.  In addition to her parents, Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her husband, Andrew Davis Smith; and two brothers, Thomas Marion and Cecil Marion.  The funeral service will be held Friday, June 4, 2021, at 2:00 PM at Highland Park Baptist Church, with Dr. Darrell Tate officiating.  Burial will follow at Skyline Memory Gardens.  The family will accept friends at the church on Friday from 12:30 PM until the time of the service.  In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorial contributions be made to Highland Park Baptist Church, 1327 Grove Lane, Mount Airy, NC  27030.  Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy is serving the family.
