Mrs. Annie Virginia Wood Nichols, 91, of Mount Airy, passed away Sunday, February 26, 2012, at Northern Hospital of Surry County. Mrs. Nichols was born February 13, 1921, in Surry County, the daughter of the late Monnie and Bessie Brown Wood. She was a homemaker and a member of the Baptist faith. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Will Lippy of Bumpass, VA; a son and daughter-in-law, Wayne and Holly Nichols of Mount Airy; a granddaughter and her husband, Julie and Jeremy Wilder of Ararat; a stepgrandson and his wife, Jason and Tera Flippen of Mount Airy; two sisters-in-law, Helen Wood of Mount Airy and Faye Wood of Huntersville; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Nichols was preceded in death by her husband, Howard Clinton Nichols; four brothers, Brady Wood, Glenn Wood, Leonard Wood, and John L. Wood; and a sister-in-law, Emma Wood. A graveside service will be held Tuesday, February 28, 2012, at 11:00 AM at Skyline Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends at the home of Julie and Jeremy Wilder, 299 Radar Road in Ararat. There will not be a formal visitation at the funeral home. Her body will remain at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy until the time to be carried to the cemetery.
