Mrs. Annie Lucille Flippen Oakley, 77, of 152 Lakeview Circle, Mount Airy, passed away early Saturday morning, January 2, 2016, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson. Mrs. Oakley was born March 10, 1938, in Surry County, one of six children born to the late Elder Samuel Meadows and Virginia Elizabeth Southern Flippen. Lucille retired from Cross Creek Apparel after many years of service and was a member of Laurel Springs Baptist Church. She is survived by her husband, Hubert Blain Oakley of the home; two sons and daughters-in-law, Tommy Ray and Debra Slate of Mount Airy and Teddy Lee and Ginger Slate of Statesville; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a sister, Barbara Lee Johnson of Goldsboro; and three brothers and sisters-in-law, the Rev. Woodrow and Judy Flippen of Lowgap, Russell and Rita Flippen of Winston-Salem, and Jerry and Joyce Flippen of Sparta. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Oakley was preceded in death by a brother, Jimmy Dale Flippen. The funeral service will be held Tuesday, January 5, 2016, at 11:00 AM at Laurel Springs Baptist Church, with the Rev. Woodrow Flippen and Brother Brian Pack officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home, 945 Zephyr Road, Dobson, NC 27017. Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy is serving the family.
