Annie Elizabeth Riggs

Mrs. Annie Elizabeth Midkiff Riggs, 104, of Mount Airy, went to her heavenly home on Sunday night, December 9, 2018.  She had lived at Twelve Oaks Assisted Living Facility for the past eight years.  Mrs. Riggs was born September 30, 1914, in Surry County, the daughter of the late Roy L. and Lela Short Midkiff.  Annie was a homemaker and a faithful member of Flat Rock Baptist Church.  She taught Sunday school classes for many years, always giving Bibles to the children in her classes, along with lovely homemade ornaments.  Annie and her late husband, Roy, shared their love and received many acts of kindness from their neighbors and extended family from their beloved Flat Rock community.  She is survived by a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Robert Lee “Bobby” and Pat Riggs of Mount Airy; her nieces and nephews, Frances and Dwight Jackson of Advance, Charlotte Keiger of Mount Airy, Roger and Muriel Riggs of Winston-Salem, and Dean and Debbie Riggs of Daniel Island, SC; and several great nieces and nephews.  In addition to her parents, Mrs. Riggs was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Roscoe Riggs; an infant daughter, Carol Ann Riggs; a sister, Stella Midkiff Hicks; and a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Roger Riggs, Sr. and Olive Riggs.  A graveside service will be held Monday, December 17, 2018, at 11:00 AM at Midkiff Cemetery, with the Rev. Kevin Wilson officiating.  The family will receive friends Monday from 10:00 until 10:30 AM at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy.  The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to Flat Rock Baptist Church, P.O. Box 587, Mount Airy, NC  27030.  The family wishes to express their gratitude for the love and compassion shown by the staff at Twelve Oaks Assisted Living Facility and her special friend, Bonnie Hawkins.
