Mrs. Annie Lee Jarrell Stevens, 85, of 701 Creed Street, Mount Airy, passed away Friday morning, October 8, 2010, at her home. Mrs. Stevens was born January 3, 1925, in Surry County, daughter of the late Hiram Chester and Lou Alene Nichols Jarrell. Annie retired as a supervisor from Eco Knit Company and was a member of Haymore Memorial Baptist Church. She is survived by a granddaughter and her husband, Lori and Chris Hiatt of Mount Airy; a great-granddaughter, Hannah Hiatt of Mount Airy; a great-grandson, Landon Hiatt of Mount Airy; a sister and brother-in-law, Almaree and George Shattuck of Tarpon Springs, FL; a brother and sister-in-law, Thomas and Jean Jarrell of Morganton; two special sisters-in-law, Ann Draughn and Linda Goins, both of Mount Airy; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Stevens was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Leach Stevens; a daughter, Sherry Dawn Stevens Hill; a sister, Mary Leslie Jarrell; and two brothers, Charles Ray Jarrell and H.C. "Sonny" Jarrell. The funeral service will be held Sunday, October 10, 2010, at 3:00 PM at Haymore Memorial Baptist Church, with the Rev. Robert McCrary officiating. Burial will follow at Skyline Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends Sunday from 1:30 until 3:00 PM at the church. The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, especially Shelley Lowe, for the loving care given to Annie during her illness.
