Annie "Ruth" Donathan Watson

Ms. Annie “Ruth” Donathan Watson, 79, of Mount Airy, passed away Friday, March 3, 2017, at her home. She was born in Yadkin County on October 9, 1937, to the late Riley Anderson and Lizzie Ellen Jones Donathan. Ms. Watson retired from Pine State Knitwear and was a member of Westside Baptist Church. Ruth was a loving mother, grandmother, sister and neighbor. She greatly loved God and her family and reminiscing over fond memories. She treasured her daughter and son-in-law and adored her two granddaughters. Ruth was incredibly generous, sending food to the sick and helping those in need even after she herself became homebound. She loved to sing and particularly enjoyed bluegrass and gospel music. Her laugh was contagious and will be missed tremendously. She was an award-winning writer, excellent southern cook, and warm hostess. Independent and beautifully strong-willed, her invincible spirit seemed larger than life. She faced every day with tremendous courage and relentless determination and our hope is that the same spirit will always live on in us and that we can exude the values and love she left us to remember. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Debbie and Mark Brannock; of Mt. Airy; grandchildren, Molly Brannock of Saline, MI, and Abigail Brannock of Mt. Airy; sisters-in-law, Frances Donathan of Alexandria, VA, and Peggy Donathan of Pilot Mountain; the father of her only child, James Belton of Mt. Airy; special neighbors, Roger and Judy Coe, Ricky and Judy Easter all of Mt. Airy; many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Ms. Watson was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Marsh; brothers, Walter Donathan, Wilburn Donathan, Dr. William “Bill” Stuart Donathan, Foley “Jack” Donathan, Wendell Donathan. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, March 7, 2017 at 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Ricky Easter, and Rev. Larry Donathan officiating. Burial will follow in Pilot Mountain City Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mt. Airy and other times at 1003 McKinney Rd. Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home, 945 Zephyr Rd., Dobson, NC27017.
