Mrs. April Althea Ashburn Atkins, age 65, of Mount Airy, passed away on Thursday, June 1, 2023, at Novant Forsyth Medical Center surrounded by her family. Mrs. Atkins was born on May 29, 1958, in Wake County, North Carolina to the late Lugene Wilson and Peggy Rosetta Watts Ashburn. April was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She will be deeply missed by all that knew her. Surviving is her husband, William “Ed” Atkins; a daughter and daughter-in-law, Rita Willard and Jessica; two grandchildren, Natalee Hinson, Allie Hinson; a sister and brother-in-law, Rhonda “Ronnie” Ashburn Brinkley and Rev. Eugene Brinkley; nieces and spouses, Miriam and Brian Goff, Rebekah and Wes Mosteller, Candace and Michael Needham; great-nieces and nephews, Alexander Goff, Emma Goff, Elijah Mosteller, Abigail Mosteller, Luke Needham, Andrew Needham, Madeline Needham; aunt and uncle, Stephen and Rebecca Stanley; cousins, Barrett and Joanna Stanley, Rowan Stanley, Lisa and Sammy Collins, Parker Collins, Dalton Collins. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Atkins was preceded in death by a son, William Mark Atkins; and her maternal grandmother, Ida McKnight “Ida Mama” Watts. A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, June 10, 2023, at 2:00PM at The Peoples Church in Mount Airy. The family will receive friends on Saturday, June 10, 2023, from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM at The Peoples Church in Mount Airy. Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy has been entrusted with the arrangements.
