Archie Daniel Haynes, Sr.

Mr. Archie Daniel Haynes, Sr., 90, of Mount Airy, passed away Sunday evening, September 24, 2023, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson.  Mr. Haynes was born August 12, 1933, in Surry County, one of nine children born to the late William Edgar “Bill” and Kate Blue Haynes.  Archie was reared in the White Plains community and graduated from White Plains High School in 1959.  He served our country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict, earning the rank of corporal.  On December 4, 1959, Archie married Norma Dean Woodruff, and together they were a vital part of the White Plains community for 63 years.  Archie was a faithful member of White Plains Friends Meeting and a member of Granite Masonic Lodge #322 AF and AM.  He is survived by his wife, Norma Dean Woodruff Haynes of the home; two daughters and sons-in-law, Donna Leigh and Gilbert Ray “Butch” Myers, Jr. of Cleveland and Kimberly Ann and David Tompkins of Denver; a son, Archie Daniel “Danny” Haynes, Jr. of Pilot Mountain; his grandchildren, Jordan and Kayla Myers of West Jefferson and Alex and Kyle Venrick of Concord; a great-grandson, George Henry Myers; a sister and brother-in-law, Catherine and Buddy Creed of Lowgap; a sister-in-law, Lillie Mae Haynes of Mount Airy; and several nieces and nephews.  In addition to his parents, Mr. Haynes was preceded in death by four sisters, Ann Cave, Agnes Chilton, Iris Hodge, and Betty Easter; and three brothers, William Haynes, Arnold Haynes, and Don Haynes.  A service of worship and celebration of Archie’s life will be held Saturday, September 30, 2023, at 11:00 AM at White Plains Friends Meeting, with the Rev. Dusty Ball and the Rev. Jake Penley officiating.  The family will receive friends Saturday from 10:00 until 11:00 AM at the church.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the White Plains Friends Meeting, 849 Old Highway 601, Mount Airy, NC  27030; or Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 1427 Edgewood Drive, Suite 101, Mount Airy, NC  27030.  Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy is serving the family.
