Mr. Arnold Gray Childress, age 74, of Dobson, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, October 19, 2020 at his residence. He was born August 4, 1946 in Surry County to the late Julius Paul and Gladys Dollyhigh Childress. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Shirley Freeman; and brothers, Bud Childress, Doug Childress and Beamer Childress. He is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Amy Jo Byrd Childress; daughter and son-in-law, Amanda and Jamie Gann; and granddaughter, who was the joy of his life, Elizabeth Gann. Mr. Childress was a member of Fairview Baptist Church and a retired truckdriver from Estes Express Line. He also served in the US Army for 16 months during the Vietnam War. A celebration of his life will be 2:00 PM Wednesday, October 21, 2020 in the Fairview Baptist Church sanctuary with Dr. Billy Nale and Reverend Lee Johnson officiating. A graveside service with Military Honors by Veterans of Foreign Wars Memorial Honor Guard Mount Airy Post 2019 and Pilot Mountain Post 9436 will follow in Fairview Baptist Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice, 401 Technology Lane, Mount Airy NC 27030 or St. Jude's Hospital Memorial Fund, 501 St. Jude Way, Memphis TN, 28104.
