Arnold Washington "A.W." Leftwich, Jr.

Mr. Arnold Washington “A.W.” Leftwich, Jr. of Dobson, passed away Sunday at his home surrounded by his family.  He was born in Carroll County, VA March 11, 1952 to the late Arnold Washington Leftwich, Sr. and Elma Painter Leftwich.  He worked for over 20 years with Kentucky Derby and was of the Baptist Faith.  He was a loving husband, father and grandfather, with a strong concern for all children.  Mr. Leftwich is survived by his devoted wife, Betty Leigh Hawks Leftwich; daughters and sons-in-law, Angela “Fay” and Thomas Kingsbury and Denise and Mike Petty; sons and daughters-in-law, Daniel “Punkin” and Amanda Leftwich, A.W. “Dub” Leftwich, III and Johnny and Amber Willard; eleven grandchildren; six great grandchildren; sisters and brothers-in-law, Eleanor Leftwich, Nelba and Raymond Dowell, Juanita Montgomery, Loreita Bennett, Joy and Howard Wall and Mashel Leftwich; brothers and sister-in-law, Maynard Leftwich, Clellan and Darlene Leftwich, Shirley Leftwich and Barbara Leftwich; and his father-in-law, Rev. Johnny Hawks.  In addition to his parents, Mr. Leftwich was preceded in death by a grandchild, Gabriel Kingsbury; a great grandchild, Cayden Harrell; sisters, Evon Draughn, Michalene Leftwich and infant sister Bernice Leftwich; brothers, J.C., Berman and Jeffrey Leftwich and his mother-in-law, Alice Hawks.  Funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday, November 7, 2018 at Moody Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jason Johnson officiating.  Burial will follow in the Leftwich Family Cemetery in Cana, VA.  The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mt. Airy.  In lieu of flowers the family has requested that you join in memorial contributions as A.W. has done for several years and send the contributions to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
