Arthur Bradley “Art” or “Brad” Johnson went to be with the Lord on January 8th, 2019 at the age of 82. He was born on December 18, 1936 to Esther Gladys and William Arthur Johnson in Silt Mesa, Colorado. He is survived by Marge, his loving wife of 59 years; three daughters- Terry Killgore, Debbie Tomczyk and husband Tom, Cyndie Osborne and husband, Mike; five granddaughters-Mary Dallas and husband Dane, Annie Rogers and husband Brett, Lauren Johnson, Kimaya Tomczyk and Claire Killgore; two grandsons- Bradley Tomczyk and David Killgore plus two great grandchildren- Emerlie Rogers and Abel Dallas and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and by three brothers- Lewis Johnson and wife Gleanna, Willard (Red) Johnson and wife Jody and James Murray Johnson, as well as four sisters-Gladys Burrell and husband Paul, Nellie Benzel and husband Karl, Florence James and husband Don and Betty Jackson and husband Warren. Brad served in Naval Air from 1955-1959, and little did he know that after a small brawl in the barracks, his comrade would introduce him to his little sister who would later become his wife. He graduated from Central Piedmont Community College in 1972 with an Associates in Applied Science in Business Administration. He lived in Charlotte for 39 years and held many business-related jobs and retired from the Catholic Diocese of Charlotte in February 2002 after having worked for St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church as Maintenance supervisor for many years. Art is remembered by many as a sweet and loving man with a zest for life. His favorite pastime was his love of basketball and coaching his “girls” basketball teams over the years at Our Lady of Assumption and St. Patrick’s schools in Charlotte. Art was a member of Holy Angels Catholic Church in Mt. Airy where he served as an usher until his health forced him to retire. He also was a Third-Degree Charter member of the Knights of Columbus. A Visitation/Celebration of Life is scheduled for January 19, 2019 @ Holy Angels Catholic Church from 10 to 11 am, followed by a Funeral Mass from 11 am to 12 noon (1208 N. Main Street, Mt. Airy, NC 27030). There will be a bereavement luncheon for those who wish to attend immediately following to continue the celebration of his life.
