Mr. Arthur Monroe “Monk” McCraw, age 80, of Elkin, passed away Wednesday, March 31, 2021 at Forsyth Medical Center. Mr. McCraw was born, November 13, 1940 in Surry County to the late Matt Moore McCraw and the late Ida Mae Johnson McCraw. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother; Ivy Wayne McCraw and son-in-law, Robert Presley. Left to cherish his memory is his wife of sixty years, Carol Vivian “Doodle” McCraw; daughter, Vicky McCraw Presley; son, Jason Monroe McCraw; grandson, Robert Kyle Presley; sisters, Lorene Toone, Arlene Edwards, Elsie Atkins, Alma Shinault and Shirley Mustin; sister-in-law, Linda Spann; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Myron and Dorcas Sprinkle; several nieces and nephews. Mr. McCraw was a lifelong farmer, owner of McCraw Shavings Company, an elder of Salem Fork Christian Church for thirty years, and a member of the cemetery committee. He also loved gardening and sharing the fruits of his labor of love. Mr. McCraw will lie in state at Moody-Davis Funeral Service in Dobson, Saturday, April 3, 2021 from 11:00 am-3:30 pm. A graveside service will follow at 4:00 P.M. in the Salem Fork Christian Church Cemetery with Reverend Austin Caviness officiating. Anyone attending the graveside service is requested to please wear casual attire. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Salem Fork Christian Church Cemetery Fund, 2490 Zephyr Road, Dobson NC 27017 or to The American Kidney Fund, 11921 Rockford Pike, Suite 300, Rockville, MD 20852.
