Arthur H. Shores

Mr. Arthur H. Shores, 97, of Thurmond, NC, passed away early Saturday morning, January 1, 2022, at his home, surrounded by his beloved family. Mr. Shores was born in Surry County on September 13, 1924, to the late Earlie M. Shores and the late Hattie A. Kennedy Shores. He was a member of Charity Hill Baptist Church. He was a veteran of the United States Army. Mr. Shores was widely respected for his integrity, generosity, and devotion to God, family and friends.

He retired from Chatham Manufacturing Company in 1990 after 40+ years of service. He was a longtime farmer who had an amazing way of handling cattle and horses, a gardener who enjoyed giving away his harvests to friends and neighbors, and a doting grandfather who enjoyed riding his four-wheelers all over the farm with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren..

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Rick H. Shores; four brothers and three sisters-in-law, John Shores, James Shores (Carol Shores Swaim), Clifton Shores (Maudaleen) and Clinton Shores (Evelyn); one sister and brother-inlaw, Mary Levon Houser (Richard); one brother-in-law and sister-in-law, James and Marylene Comer.

Mr. Shores is survived by his loving wife of 78 years, Lucille Brindle Shores; one daughter, Janie Shores Johnson of State Road; one daughter-in-law, Pat White Shores of Thurmond; two granddaughters, Lori Shores Cogdill (Jason) of Pfafftown, Suzanne Shores Borandi (Jeff) of Pittsburgh, PA; two great-grandsons, Thomas Shores Cogdill and Hampton Michael Cogdill of Pfafftown; one sister and brotherin-law, Magdalene Shores Cox (Richard) of Thurmond; one sister-in-law, Odessa Shores of Elkin, and many special nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

The family will be receiving visitors from 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 5, 2022, at Moody-Davis Funeral Home in Dobson, NC. A family graveside service will be held on Wednesday, January 5, 2022, at 2:00 p.m. at Charity Hill Baptist Church cemetery. Please honor the family’s request to wear masks and practice social distancing at all times. The family would like to thank the staff at Mountain Valley Hospice, as well as all the devoted caregivers, who gave such exceptional care to Arthur during the fourteen months that he was bedbound.
