Artis Hiatt

Mrs. Artis Jean Johnson Hiatt, age 82, of Mount Airy, passed away on Sunday, April 25, 2021 at her home.  She was born in Surry County on April 3, 1939 to the late Elbert and Mima McCraw Johnson.  She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend.  She will be deeply missed by all that knew her.  Left to cherish her memories are her sons and daughters-in-law, Randy “Frosty” Hiatt and wife Tammy, Ricky Dean Hiatt, Sr. and wife Mary Jean; grandchildren, Ricky Dean Hiatt, Jr., Garrett Keller, and Bryanna Thomas; three sisters and one brother-in-law, Betty Johnson Bowman, Myrtle Johnson, and Darlene Johnson Young and husband John; one brother, Ralph Johnson; several nieces and nephews; as well a special caregiver, Christine Mabe.  In addition to her parents Mrs. Hiatt was preceded in death by her husband, Wesley Melvin Hiatt; one sister, Lucille Johnson Cockerham; and one brother, Chester Johnson.  A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, April 28, 2021 at 11:00 AM in the Leonard Cemetery with services conducted by Brother Sammy Lawson and Gary Fore.  Mrs. Hiatt will lie-in-state from 12:00 PM until 5:00 PM on Tuesday, April 27, 2021 at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy.  In lieu of flowers, donation may be made to Flat Ridge Baptist Church, c/o Doris Dawson, 229 Meadowbrook Road, Cana, Virginia 24317 or the Alzheimer Association, 225 N. Michigan Ave. Floor 17 Chicago, IL 60601.  The dress for the service will be casual.
