Our special beloved brother Ashley Reid Benfield went to be with Jesus March 10, 2017, and reunited with his daddy and mama Fred and Hallie Benfield. He was born April 5, 1954 in Surry County and was raised in Lowgap, NC, living the last twenty years in Johnson City, TN. He was a member of Roaring Gap Baptist church but attended Midway Baptist Church in Johnson City when he was able. He is survived by four sisters, Bennie Sue Potts and Martha Shipley of Johnson City, Patsy Bair (Jackie) of Jonesborough, TN and Mitzi O’Hare (Dale) of Lowgap, NC, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins, a special girlfriend, Charlotte Long, a special roommate, Brenda Bedwall, and special caregivers, Mary Fagan and Tonya Guinn. He was blessed with other caregivers, Patsy, Beth, Gladys, Bridgett, Tiffany, whom he loved dearly. Ashley loved to go to church and did so as long as his health allowed. He loved fried chicken, M & M’s, diet Mt. Dew and family gatherings. Ashley worked ten years at The Dawn of Hope, Hooters, Moody Books and Enhanced Support Services. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Wednesday, March 15, 2017 at Roaring Gap Baptist Church by Rev. Joe Atkins and Rev. Mike Casstevens. Burial will be in the church cemetery following the service. Ashley will lie in state at the church one hour prior to the service. The family will receive friends at Moody Funeral Home, Tuesday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 and other times at the home of his sister, Mitzi O’Hare, 103 Schuyler Farm Lane, Lowgap, NC. A memorial service will be held at Midway Baptist Church in Johnson City at a later date.
