Athajean Kelena Martin

            Mrs. Athajean Terry Martin, age 81 of Stuart, passed away Thursday, August 8, 2019 at the Blue Ridge Therapy Connection in Stuart.  She was born on March 28, 1938 in Patrick County to the late Rodney Charlton Terry and Mattie Irene Epperson Terry.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Charmaine Atkins.  Mrs. Martin was a member of Patrick Springs Pentecostal Holiness Church where she was very active in the Women’s Ministries and Choir.  She had retired from J.P. Stevens with over 47 years of service; was a member of the Scarlett O’Hats-Red Hat Society; and served as secretary of the American Cancer Society-Stuart Chapter.  Her hobbies included enjoying her grandchildren and attending their sports and church activities.  Mrs. Martin was a masterful seamstress and enjoyed reading, sewing, and trying out new recipes.  She was a caring, humble, loving, understanding person who was always eager to assist anyone.

            Surviving are her husband of 59 years, Franklin Martin of the home; one son and daughter-in-law, Terry and Aleta Martin of Meadows of Dan; two daughters and sons-in-law, Karen and Thomas Gammons of Kernersville, NC, Sharon and Kevin Mitchell of Kernersville, NC; four grandchildren, Brittany Jean Miller and husband, Christopher, Jessica Leigh Hubbard and husband, Jonathan, Landon Alan Mitchell, Nathan Franklin Mitchell; one great granddaughter, Eliza Jean Miller; one brother and sister-in-law, Anthony and Estelle Terry of Ararat; and several nieces and nephews.

            Funeral services will be held Sunday, August 11, 2019 at 3:00 PM at Patrick Springs Pentecostal Holiness Church with Dr. Marion Poythress officiating.  Burial will follow in the Patrick Memorial Gardens.  The family will receive friends Saturday night from 6 to 8 at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart and at other times at the home.  Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to the Women’s Ministry at Patrick Springs Pentecostal Holiness Church, P.O.
