After a prolonged illness, Audrey Thomas Moore, 83, of 1407 Edgewood Drive, Mount Airy, died Tuesday, August 14, 2007, at his home. Mr. Moore was born December 31, 1923, in Surry County, to Dwight L. and Etta Louise Jones Moore. He was married to Mary Hilda Christian Moore, July 30, 1946; who preceded him in death, November 7, 1992. He was also preceded in death by a son, Larry Christian Moore, in December of 2006. He is survived by his children, Jayne M. Bowman and husband, Michael, of Jamestown, Kathryn M. Hutchens and husband, Freddie, of Lancaster, SC, Gerald T. Moore and wife, Tammy, of Mount Airy, Paul F. Moore of Anderson, SC, and Philip L. Moore of Mount Airy; a daughter-in-law, Linda T. Moore of McLeansville; a brother and sister-in-law, Mitchell and Magdalene Moore of Mount Airy; three sisters, Bonnie Fletcher of Clemmons, Carolyn York of White Plains, and Frances Smith of Raleigh; three grandchildren, Joseph Bowman of Trinity, Sgt. Micah Bowman now serving in the United States Army in Alabama, and Christian Bowman of Jamestown; two stepgrandchildren, Angie Bowman of Winston-Salem and Renee Espinosa of Chattanooga, TN; two stepgreat-grandchildren; and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins. Mr. Moore was a 1940 graduate of Copeland High School, a World War II veteran, a member of Haymore Memorial Baptist Church, where he served in the past as a deacon, secretary of the Ready Sunday School Class, and Property Committee Chairman. He was a charter member of the Franklin Ruritan Club and a member for fifty years. He was co-owner of Surry Truck and Tractor Company until his retirement in 1994. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Monday, August 20, 2007, at Haymore Memorial Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Robert McCrary. Entombment will follow in Skyline Memory Gardens Mausoleum, with military honors by VFW Memorial Honor Guard Post 2019 of Mount Airy and Post 9436 of Pilot Mountain. The family will receive friends Sunday night from 6:30 to 9:00 at the church. Flowers will be accepted, or memorials may be made to Haymore Memorial Baptist Church New Building Fund, P.O. Box 27, Mount Airy, NC 27030. The family would like to express a special thanks to Mr. Moore's loving caregivers, Angie Hall and Jacqueline Thomas, for the wonderful love and care shown to our father over the years.
