Audrey Madeline Gibson Slate

Mrs. Audrey Madeline Gibson Slate, 88, of 152 Myers Drive, Mount Airy, passed away Monday, June 9, 2008, at Northern Hospital of Surry County. Mrs. Slate was born March 2, 1920, in Surry County, to the late John Gibson and Annie Myers Gibson Spicer. Audrey was a retired textile worker and a caregiver for Mrs. Osler Woltz. Mrs. Slate was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church. She is survived by a brother and sister-in-law, Kent S. and Mary Lou Gibson of Mount Airy; two nieces and their husbands, Diane and Ricky Hicks of Ararat and Laura and Rick Brintle of Mount Airy; a nephew and his wife, Kent S. Gibson, Jr. and Sharron Gibson of Raleigh; four great-nieces, Susan Jones and husband, Kevin, of King, Maleigha Brintle of Mount Airy, and Meg Gibson and Sarah Gibson, both of Raleigh; two great-nephews, Chase Brintle of Mount Airy and Justin Gibson of Raleigh; and a great-great-nephew, Taylor Jones of King. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Slate was preceded in death by her husband, Edgar Slate; and a niece, Wendy Gibson Pappas. A graveside service will be held Wednesday, June 11, 2008, at 10:00 AM at Oakdale Cemetery, with the Rev. Raymond J. Hanna officiating. No formal visitation will be held at the funeral home.
